Information about the Antonov Automatic Drive (AAD six-speed) is base for TX6 ================================================
LATEST NEWS (22 NOVEMBER 2007) ANTONOV END CO-OPERATION DEAL WITH GEELY !!!!!!!!!!!! LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Antonov PLC said it will not go ahead with its co-operation with Geely as the automobile components company did not fulfil its financial and other obligations under the contract. The automatic transmission concept developer said the initial production licence lapsed in September 2007 and that the cessation of the deal had no impact on its first half results. Antonov said: "This decision has no impact on the company's published results for the first half of 2007 as prudently provision had already been made for the unpaid amounts from Geely."

Project Target: The Antonov team decided that the new generation of transmission should fulfil the following requirements : - Maintain existing advantages of small size, light weight , high efficiency and low costs. - Introduce simple control, involving only two elements in changing ratios during the shifting process. - Achieve free values for the ratio in each speed.
Obviously this was a major task requiring the invention of a new concept which should address some of the unsolved problems in the development of today’s automatic transmissions.
Concept and design : A fifth generation Antonov 6-speed was created based on new kinematics and architecture. The concept is a new invention which is covered by patents applied for.
For the first time an automatic transmission was created that employs planetary gears in a kinematics scheme that utilises parallel transfers of power. The engine’s output goes to two parallel three-speed modules. Each of these can independently accept power and transfer it to the differential. Thus each of the two modules can have its own input ratio to the engine.
In each module, three speeds are produced by two simple planetary gears, two brakes and one clutch. When those friction elements in one module are not engaged there is no transmission of power. Under those conditions, the transmission can select upshifts and downshifts in any combination using all six friction elements. The shift is produced in combination with only two of them, engaging one and disengaging the other.
Based on this concept, an initial layout for a 6-speed 200 Nm AT was created. This transmission can produce any overall ratio and any steps in any of the speeds, without limitation. Although its overall length is about 320 mm, this has the possibility of being decreased, and packaging is very compact. Weight is much lower also.
When power is being transmitted only one of the planetary gear is carrying torque. The speed of the two modules is slightly reduced with respect to engine speed. This offers the potential for higher efficiency.
The design is simple, consisting of only standard components similar to those of current production automatics. There are no freewheels in the design. The start device is one of the brakes in one of the modules.
The following diagrams show a mathematical approach, diagram, kinematics scheme, layout of transmission and possible spread of the Fifth generation 6-speed automatic transmission.
